Fort Wayne Well Represented in Weekend Performance Finals

Area high school students will offer their talents once again this weekend in jazz, winter guard and show choir competitions in the Indianapolis area.

The Homestead winter guard (shown in a contributed photo) earned a berth in the Indiana High School Color Guard Association’s Open Class state finals on Saturday, by finishing first among nine schools at the preliminaries at Center Grove High School in Greenwood.

The winter guard state finals will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Center Grove High School, 2717 S. Morgantown Road, Greenwood. Admission is $10, or $8 for students and senior citizens over 65, or $3 for children 5 and under. Infants not needing a seat are admitted free.

Homestead will compete in Open Class at 5:12 p.m. The Carroll varsity winter guard will compete in Class A at 2:45 p.m. The NorthWood winter guard will compete in Regional A at 12:03 p.m.

In all, 30 Indiana winter guard units will perform. The Pride of Cincinnati winter guard will perform in exhibition at 6:40 p.m.

The Indiana State School Music Association instrumental jazz finals will be held Friday at North Central High School, 1801 E. 86th St., Indianapolis. Adult admission is $13; student admission is $11.

North Side will perform at 6 p.m., Carroll will perform at 7:30 p.m., and DeKalb will perform at 8:40 p.m.

The ISSMA vocal jazz finals will be held Friday at Plainfield High School. The music begins at 6 p.m. Adult admission is $13; student admission is $11. Leo will compete at 6:40 p.m., DeKalb will compete at 7:50 p.m., and Concordia Lutheran will compete at 8:30 p.m.

Several schools will represent northeast Indiana in the ISSMA show choir small school finals Saturday at Plainfield High School. Adult admission is $13; student admission is $11.

Area unisex show choirs competing are: Huntington North Volume, 9:30 a.m.; Columbia City City Lights, 10:30 a.m.; East Noble Premiere Edition, 12:45 p.m.; and DeKalb Sound Sensation, 1:15 p.m.

Area mixed division choirs competing are: Columbia City City Heat, 4 p.m.; Garrett Encore!, 4:30 p.m.; DeKalb Classic Connection, 5:30 p.m.; Huntington North Varsity Singers, 7 p.m.; and Churubusco New Era, 8:30 p.m.

No area schools advanced to the large school finals at North Central High School.
