Marching bands from Carroll, East Noble, Angola and Adams Central high schools won top honors in their respective classes Saturday at Homestead High School.

Twenty-two bands competed in a span of six hours. The host Spartan Alliance band marched in exhibition before the final awards presentation at the Fall Festival of Bands.

The Charger Pride of Carroll High School swept awards for music, visual and general effect in Class A, won that class and earned a trophy as grand champion of the festival. The Carroll show was entitled “Through Tearful Eyes.” Lafayette Jefferson was second and Fort Wayne Snider was third.

East Noble’s Marching Knights swept the categories and won the title in Class B. Huntington North was second, Wayne was third and New Haven and Marion were cited for participation.

Angola’s Marching Hornets won the general effect category in Class C en route to the the trophy. Concordia Lutheran of Fort Wayne won the music category and second place in class. Norwell won the visual category and third place in class. Heritage earned a articipation recognition.

The Squadron of Sound of Adams Central won the visual and general effect awards and took top place in Class D. Elwood earned the music award and second place. Woodlan placed third. Triton Central, Rensselaer Central, Whitko, Triton and Bluffton earned participation recognition.

Homestead also will host an Indiana State School Music Association Scholastic Class preliminaries and Open Contest on Saturday, Oct. 7. Admission is $7 for adults and $5 for students and preschoolers. Concession stands will be open at each entrance. Bands that choose to march in Scholastic Class will vie for ratings to advance to the state finals Oct. 21. Bands that choose to march in Open Class will compete for judges’ ratings as they refine their shows; competition begins at scattered sites on Oct. 14, with semistates Oct. 28 and state finals Nov. 4.

In Open Class C: Angola, 5:56 p.m.; Garrett, 6:09 p.m.; Leo, 6:35 p.m.

In Open Class B: DeKalb, 7:40 p.m.; Huntington North, 7:53 p.m.

In Open Class A: Homestead, 8:19 p.m.
