“Black Hawk Down” pilot, Michael Durant, will visit Fort Wayne

The Northeast Indiana Base Community Council will host a luncheon on the anniversary of 9/11 featuring keynote speaker, Michael Durant. The program will take place 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 11 in the Diamond Room at Ceruti’s Summit Park, 6601 Innovation Boulevard, Fort Wayne.

Durant was piloting one of two Black Hawk helicopters that were fired upon and brought down during a combat operation in Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1993. His story has been shared through books and was brought to life on the big screen in the movie Black Hawk Down.

Since retiring from the military, he co-founded the aerospace company, Pinnacle Solutions Inc., and was named the 2013 Vetrepreneur of the Year by the National Veteran Owned Business Association.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring Michael Durant to Northeast Indiana to share his story as it is one that communicates the threats our armed service members face around the world every day,” Council President Patrick Dooley said in a prepared statement.

The keynote speaker’s presentation is sponsored by SDI – Steel Dynamics.

Seating for the luncheon is limited. General admission is $25 with other seating options available.

The Northeast Indiana Base Community Council will have a limited number of Durant’s books available for purchase, and he will be available to sign them at the conclusion of the program. To register, visit www.nibcc.org/events.
