The Fort Wayne Central Lions Club hosted its annual Appreciation Dinner Dec. 5 at Turnstone.
The event recognizes and thanks the major donors, community partners and volunteers who participated in the 35th Annual Bill Smith Golf Outing in May 2018 and others. Major corporate sponsors included Meijer, Parkview Health, Belmont Beverage, Nipsco and Fire/Police Federal Credit Union. Community partners included New Haven Lions, Jamison Meats and Super Value.
The club honored three volunteers with the Frank Celarek Award for Volunteer of the Year: Miki Cooney (Audio Reading Services), William Mardin (League for the Blind and Disabled), Dr. Scott Miller (Matthew 25).
The club also presented the Audio Reading Services, League for the Blind and Disabled, Matthew 25 and Leader Dog for the Blind each with a plaque and a check for $4,480.
The Lion of the Year award was presented to Dave Grant for his many years of service to the Blind Bowlers and his humanitarian service to those in need.
Club President Nancy Daugherty was presented with the W.P. Woods Award for her dedication and commitment to the Fort Wayne Central Lions Club. Club member and former president Rosa A. Gerra received the Melvin Jones Award for her contributions and support to the club.
