ALLEN COUNTY — Temperatures are slowly starting to rise as the region rebounds from this week’s polar vortex conditions, but a number of local schools will continue to be impacted by the winter weather.
Fort Wayne Community Schools announced Thursday afternoon that schools will remain closed on Friday, Feb. 1, because of transportation issues.
“The buses need time to warm up before running again, and today’s temperatures are not warm enough,” FWCS posted on Facebook.
District offices will be open on Friday. A make-up day will take place May 31.
Southwest Allen County Schools will also close schools Friday. Students will have another e-learning day. SACS offices will be open. Tech support is available through email and Canvas.
East Allen County Schools will also close schools Friday. Students will have an e-learning day.
Additionally, EACS Superintendent Marilyn Hissong announced on the district’s Facebook page that due to school cancellations this week, the district has decided to cancel a district in-service that was scheduled for Feb. 5. It will now be a regular school day.
“We value the educational time with our students and feel that the classroom time is important to their learning. Again, the District in-service that was scheduled on February 5th has been canceled. It will be a regular student attendance day. Thank you for your support as we continue to navigate through the weather conditions,” she said in the post.
Residents are encouraged to continue taking precautions to avoid risks of exposure. A winter weather advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday until 8 a.m. Friday.
