Protecting places of worship forum to be held in Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE — An interfaith meeting for faith-based leaders and community members on how to prevent and respond to hate crimes against places of worship will be held from 1-4 p.m. Friday, May 31 at the Public Safety Academy: Ivy Tech South Campus, 7602 Patriot Crossing in Fort Wayne.

The Protecting Places of Worship Forum is facilitated by the United States Department of Justice Community Relations Service and hosted by the City of Fort Wayne and the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Agenda topics will include an overview of religious hate crimes, historical and generational effects of policing, preventing and responding to active shooter situations and fortifying houses of worship.

Speakers will include Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry and representatives from the Fort Wayne Police Department, United States Attorney, Office for the Northern District of Indiana, Federal Bureau of Investigation – Indianapolis Field Office and Department of Homeland Security – Indianapolis.
