FORT WAYNE — The Aboite Township Volunteer Fire Department, located at 11321 Aboite Center Road in Fort Wayne, will host a free pancake breakfast 7-11 a.m. Saturday, May 11.
The menu will include pancakes, sausage links, hash browns, juice, coffee and milk. IHOP is donating the pancake batter for the event and the department’s volunteer firefighters and medics will be cooking and serving the meal, said Drew Edmondson, vice president of the department’s board.
Firetrucks and ambulances will be on display at the firehouse, including three fire trucks, two ambulances and a grass rig, which is used to respond to ground cover fires.
After a successful first year, this is the second year the department will host the breakfast, Edmondson said. It hosts a Public Safety Day in the fall, so the breakfast is a way to increase its outreach, he said.
Free will donations will be accepted to help the fire department purchase Class A uniform jackets. Right now, the department’s dress uniform is a shirt and tie. Edmondson said “more professional” attire will help the department, which includes 60 volunteer firefighters and medics, better represent the community.
