‘Cinderella’ transforms HHS stage

FORT WAYNE — The Homestead theater department invites audiences to enjoy a second weekend of performances of its spring musical “Cinderella” at 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11.

The classic by Rodgers and Hammerstein stars senior Peyton Godfrey as Cinderella, sophomore Autumn Harlan as the Fairy Godmother, senior Khira Hickbottom as Cinderella’s stepmother, senior Toriana Simoes and junior Bethany Villaruz as her stepsisters and Aidan Ocken as Prince Charming.

The set was designed by Curtis Shaw, artistic and musical director, and Andrew Sherman, technical director, and it was constructed with the help of parents. Simoes, who plays stepsister Joy, did almost all the detail painting on the set.

“She’s an incredible artist,” Shaw said.

The cast includes 52 students. The show features first graders from Aboite and Lafayette Meadows on two nights, who join the ensemble cast in the first song “The Prince is Giving a Ball.”

“They’re little townspeople in the opening scene,” Shaw said.

Aboite first graders performed May 3 and Lafayette Meadows students will perform May 11.

The family-friendly show is an evening for all ages, he said. There will be magic wands for sale for audience participation during the show. After the show, there will be photo opportunities with Cinderella and Prince Charming.

Show times are 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, and 7 p.m. Saturday, May 11. Tickets are $10 and can be bought at the door.
