Ten high school marching bands earned Gold ratings in Scholastic Class preliminaries on Saturday at Homestead High School, securing spots in their ISSMA state finals Oct. 21 at Lawrence Central High School in Indianapolis.

Six bands saw their Indiana State School Music Association seasons come to an end.

Another 17 bands performed in Open Class, sharpening their shows for the Open Class Regionals on Oct. 14.

Earning Gold and advancing in Scholastic Class B are: Rensselaer Central, Heritage, Bluffton and Manchester. Heritage also was cited for distinction in visual presentation. Triton earned a Silver Rating.

Earning Gold and advancing in Scholastic Class A are: Warsaw, Chesterton, North Side, Snider, Northrop and LaPorte. North Side, Snider and LaPorte were cited for distinction in visual and effect. Northrop and Chesterton were cited for distinction in effect. Wayne, New Haven, Bishop Dwenger, South Bend Adams and Columbia City ended their ISSMA campaigns.

For Bishop Dwenger, the contest marked the return to marching band and ISSMA after an absence of two years. Don Cochran signed on as director last school school year, immediately involving the band in SoundSport and other exhibitions before launching a full marching band this season.

Band member drummer David Dowling, a senior, is one of the three band members with previous experience on the ISSMA stage. In an interview between the show and the awards, he said the band performed at its best level of the season and should earn its highest rating. The Silver rating confirmed his confidence.

Bishop Dwenger will continue to march in Mid-States Band Association contests in October. Follow this site for updates.
