Charity hockey clubs will face off Saturday, Jan. 6, to raise money for Shepherd’s House. Play begins at 11:30 a.m. at SportONE/Parkview Icehouse, 3869 Ice Way, Fort Wayne. The public is invited.

The Northeast Indiana Warbirds, which was established in 2015, will welcome the Michigan Warriors.

“As we head into 2018 and ramp up our fundraising efforts for Shepherd’s House, we are excited to add more family-friendly events like this charity hockey game featuring military and first responders,” said Jim Garigen, CEO of Invisible Vets. “We are overwhelmed by the continued community support.”

At a meeting in December, Shepherd’s House was notified that it had been selected as the beneficiary of the upcoming charity hockey match. The Northeast Indiana Warbirds raise funds through silent auctions, private donations, and more, and have supported such local nonprofits as the Whitley County Domestic Violence Task Force and the Indiana USO.

Three months into their mission to raise $500,000 following the loss of federal funding, Shepherd’s House continues to provide housing and treatment to local veterans in need. Following several large donations and other events, the fundraising initiative Friends of The Shepherds House has surpassed the halfway point of their goal. More events are planned in 2018.
