The Heritage High School winter guard performs “The Climb” at the Carroll High School Winter Guard Show. Brittany Satterthwaite directs the Heritage guard, assisted by Anna Huss and Courtney Miller. Heritage has competed at Carroll, East Noble high schools this year. Heritage will compete Saturday, March 3, in the Indiana High School Color Guard Association Regional A Preliminaries at Mooresville High School, 550 N. Indiana St., Mooresville. Admission is $9, or $7 for students in K-12. Approximately 70 winter guards are eligible for that event. Twelve will advance to the Regional A finals March 17 at Center Grove High School, Greenwood, Ind. Follow ihscga.org for schedule details. Satterthwaite contributed a report on the guard’s season and growth. “In the last three years the Heritage winter guard has almost tripled in size,” she wrote. “Of our 21 kids, 14 of them have never participated in any form of guard. Being blessed with that many new kids has definitely presented its fair share of challenges for both students and staff!
Anna and I decided to take Heritage up a class this year after a stellar 2017 competitive season where they placed fifth in the state in their class, and received a Gold rating.
We knew that making State Finals our first year in Regional A would be beyond challenging, but we felt it was time to move on from Divisional Regional A. Whether or not Heritage advances on from prelims will not diminish the growth we have experienced this season. The kids have worked very hard and accomplished many of our goals outside of trophies on Saturdays. As we continue to prepare for our very first prelims appearance, we could not be more proud of their accomplishments this season and cannot wait to see what the future holds for us in upcoming years.”
