Residents urged to “Test your way, do it today”
ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (06/25/2018). – Do you know your HIV status? If you don’t know the answer to that question, you need to get tested. The Allen County Health Department will be observing National HIV Testing Day on Wednesday, June 27. The Department has teamed up with Walgreens on Creighton Avenue to offer free and confidential HIV testing.
Free rapid HIV testing will be available Wednesday, June 27th from 11:30am-6:30pm at Walgreens, 110 E. Creighton Ave. No appointment is necessary. Results can be given in 20 minutes.
National HIV Testing Day was launched in 1995 and is an annual campaign to encourage people of all ages to take the test and take control of their health. This year’s theme is “Test your way, do it today.” Nearly 1.1 million people are living with HIV in the U.S., and of those, one in seven don’t know they are infected. Getting tested is the first step to finding out if you have HIV. Early diagnosis is important.
“Everyone should know their HIV status,” says Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health HIV/STD Prevention Director Kathy Thornson. “And getting tested is easier than ever. Rapid results are available in 20 minutes.”
If you aren’t able to take advantage of the free HIV testing on June 27, there are many different ways you can still get tested. Get tested at:
