FORT WAYNE — Purdue University Fort Wayne’s theater department will present “Once Upon a Mattress” at eight shows in February and March at the Williams Theatre.
Audiences who thought they knew the story of “The Princess and the Pea,” are in for an eye-opening surprise as the disheveled Princess Winnifred the Woebegone and soon-to-be husband Prince Dauntless the Drab are not your typical royalty.
The prince’s mother, Queen Aggravain is determined to shut this wedding down while the ladies-in-waiting of the court need the prince to marry first so they can tie the know.
Carried along on a wave of vaudeville turns, sprightly dancing, insinuating jokes and raucous and romantic songs, Once Upon a Mattress provides non-stop, side-splitting shenanigans.
