Spartans finish 9th overall

PLYMOUTH — Homestead’s Adam DeLong was the individual runner-up of the competitive Plymouth Golf Regional last Thursday at Swan Lake Golf Course.

DeLong shot par, a 72, in 18 holes.

He was edged by Bishop Dwenger’s Johnny Filler, who also scored a 72, but won the playoff.

The Spartans placed ninth overall with a score of 326. The top three teams — Bishop Dwenger, Penn and Warsaw, advanced to the state finals, as well as the top five individuals without a team. Dwenger scored a 305, Penn had a 307 and Warsaw finished with 318.

DeLong was the top individual advancing without a team, followed by DeKalb’s Bailey Clark (73), Peru’s Kash Bellar (73), Kokomo’s Brandon Hansen (74) and Columbia City’s Alex Hedrick (75).

Other Spartan linksters wereEthan Schreck, who carded an 81; Cole Marcuccilli, who shot an 85; Klayton Davis, who scored an 88 and Trae Hille, who finished with an 89.

Canterbury placed fourth overall, just one stroke from third place.

The Cavaliers were led by Cam Cobler with a 76, Joey Shaklik with a 79, and Carson Stohler, Keenan Baldus and Cade Cobler all scored 82s.

DeLong competed at the state finals June 11 and 12 at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel. See next week’s edition of the Aboite News for results.
