New trash collection service begins July 3

LEO-CEDARVILLE — Leo-Cedarville Town Council signed its new trash service contract with Republic Services on June 18. The contract is effective July 1.

Republic Services began distributing about 1,250 collection bins throughout town Monday, and all residents should have their bins by the end of the day today. The first collection is scheduled for Wednesday, July 3. Collections will remain on Wednesday each week.

The town’s contract with Advanced Disposal ended June 20, and Town Council members opted to contract with Republic Services, who presented a low bid of $513,900 during a special meeting in May. Council agreed to a 3-year contract with the option of a 1-year renewal.

The service will include optional recycling for $7.04 the first year, with slight rate increases annually. Town Manager Patrick Proctor said the price to dispose of extra bagged materials outside of bins and bulk items is $1.50 and $20, respectively — an increase from $1 and $10. Residents with extra bags and bulk items with their trash should call ahead at 1-800-876-9001. Anyone who wants an extra garbage bin or a recycling bin should call the same number.

Advanced Disposal’s last collection will be June 28. Residents should put their Advanced Disposal bins at the curb on June 28 and leave them there until they are collected. It may take a few days for Advanced to collect all bins.
